The Ad Astra cooperative has a history of environmentally conscience members who have used environmental friendly materials or construction methods to renovate the 1890’s Queen Victorian home. From the insulated foundation to the milk paint on the walls the members have challenged conventional building practices.The Ad Astra cooperative began in the interest of saving the historic Wilcox home from being torn down. The house was sold to UKSHA for $1 and UKSHA moved the house from the its original site (1309 Ohio) to make room for new Scholarship halls that now face the 1300 block of Ohio Street. The house is run by students and offers a diverse and engaging cooperative experience. Rent is about $315 month (2007 rate) that includes all utilities, high speed internet, laundry facilities, and various other perks.
