Madison Community Cooperative (MCC)
Founded in 1968, MCC is a non-profit organization governed by its 200 member-residents who collectively own and manage our 11 cooperative houses in Madison's downtown and near-east side. MCC strives to improve the Madison community by providing low-cost, not-for-profit cooperative housing for very low- to moderate-income people and to be inclusive of underrepresented and marginalized groups.
Major Job Responsibilities
• Act as the manager of MCC member services by supporting programs in the areas of membership, education, conflict resolution, and record keeping
• Assist the organization with strategic planning
• Supervise minutes takers, interns, and special project staff
• Design and conduct informational and educational workshops
• Mediate conflicts between organization members
• Represent MCC to outside organizations at the local, state, and federal level
• Process and track member contracts and work with house treasurers to enforce member debt/debt collection policies
• Represent MCC in court and coordinate legal counsel
• Design and maintain forms, advertisements, graphics, and print and Web materials
• Maintain a network of Apple Macintosh computers and the MCC website
Required Qualifications
• Prior management experience with non-profit, cooperative, and/or housing organizations
• Project management experience
• Ability to effectively teach complex topics to a wide range of audiences
• Experience with conflict mediation
• Ability to keep in mind the big picture while being extremely detail-oriented
• Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Exceptional time management skills
• Ability to self-start and complete work with minimal day-to-day supervision
• Experience and comfort working with diverse communities
• Ability to work as part of a close-knit team with other staff and board members
• Knowledge of housing and tenant-landlord law
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Word, email, and Apple operating systems
• Ability to flexibly work irregular daytime, evening, and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing legal affairs
• Policy development experience
• Experience with human resources management
• Formal diversity training
• Formal training in conflict mediation or counseling
• Experience with tenant-landlord mediation
• Experience obtaining grant funding
• Real-estate negotiation experience
• Web-development experience
Compensation and Benefits
• In exchange for 35 hours of high-quality work per week:
The annual pay rate during the initial six-month probationary contract period will be between $31,000 and $38,000, varying according to relevant professional experience. If MCC chooses to continue employment beyond this initial period, the annual pay rate will be between $31,000 and $44,000 again varying according to relevant professional experience.
