We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our dynamic team at Puget Sound Food Hub Cooperative (PSFH). As the Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of our organization. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to and champion local, family-scale farms by providing a direct connection with buyers in our region seeking high quality, locally produced food.

Summary
This position is accountable for the financial, risk-management, and managerial oversight of the operation of PSFH. This includes the development of a financial strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve PSFH assets, assess and recommend business investment pathways, and report accurate financial results.
Essential Functions
Planning

Assists in formulating PSFH’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives

Monitors and directs the implementation of strategic business plans

Develops financial and tax strategies

Manages the capital requests and budgeting processes

Develops performance measures that support the PSFH’s strategic direction
Operations
-
Participates in key PSFH growth and financial decisions as a business partner to the Director

Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
-
Implement operational best practices
-
Attend PSFH BOD meetings
Finance and Budgeting
-
Responsible for overall financial management including the review and approval of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting material and metrics

Oversees budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow, and coordination of audit activities as well as accounts receivable and accounts payable

Ensures compliance with financial regulations and standards such as IRS Tax Code and GAAP

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports

Advises management of actions and potential risks

Prepares and presents regular financial statements to the Director and Board of Directors

Ensures that all quarterly and yearly taxes are paid on time

Prepares annual capital, operating, and cash flow budgets with the Director

Monitors cash balances, cash forecasts, and bank accounts

Arranges for debt and equity financing

Works collaboratively with Human Resources in the management of health and welfare benefits

Responsible for membership data management and necessary member communication

Monitor grant funded projects accounting; manage grant project costs for reimbursement
Risk Management
-
Understands and mitigates key elements of PSFH’s risk profile

Constructs and monitors reliable control systems

Maintains appropriate insurance coverage

Ensures that PSFH complies with all legal and regulatory requirements

Ensures that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies

Reports risk issues to the Director immediately

Maintains relations with external auditors and investigates findings and recommendations

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
-
5+ years’ experience as a Financial Manager or Controller, preferably in the transportation/distribution or agricultural sectors

3+ years’ experience supervising and building strong teams
-
Financial management skills for a growing business

Collaborative management style and approach
Preferred Skills & Experience

3+ years QuickBooks experience
-
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred

Government accounting and procurement knowledge
Schedule: Full-time, exempt, on-site work required, hybrid available
Compensation: Salary of $90,000 – $110,000 Depending on Experience
