Co-op Details
We want a world in which housing is a right, not a commodity, and land is collectively stewarded by and for communities. We aim to do this by:
Creating and operating an affordable housing co-op in Franklin County, Western MA governed with sociocracy.
Partnering with a community land trust to keep land permanently affordable and under community control.
Stewarding land regeneratively and as a springboard for community projects.
Sharing what we learn to inspire others as part of a broader movement.
We have just purchased our first property, partnering with a local CLT. It has two duplexes and the capacity to build more units. We are also working with another group of local tenants who are working to purchase their own building, using our legal entity and organization, from their landlord.
So our goals are not only to have places to live/work/share for our founding members, but also the housing cooperative entity to provide an alternative to renting/buying that is financially accessible to people and also grants them autonomy and safety in their homes.
Note that we are a multi stakeholder group equity housing coop, so we have resident and non resident members. I have only included our resident members in our calculations below.
Our mission is to create an alternative to renting or owning and take land off of the speculative real estate market.
2/4 units are on the ground floor, accessible without stairs. Unsure if it's ADA compliant. Both buildings are old.
