Basic Info:

We are a 14 member student co-op located in the University District of Seattle, Wa. The house is owned by the Evergreen Land Trust (ELT) a non-profit organization that holds land for community and environmental needs in perpetuity. While ELT owns the land, student members of the Sherwood Co-op steward the house and property. We share mostly organic vegetarian food and house labor. We have 28 shared dinners per month.

Purpose
The Sherwood Co-op provides affordable housing for college students while emphasizing sustainable and socially just living, and practicing direct democracy. The Sherwood Co-op is part of the ELT and our purposes of trust are to:
To encourage experimental education and communities of alternative solutions to the present economic, political, and social system.
Maintain and improve the the house to form the basis of urban communities particularly for student cooperative housing, and thus to provide an impetus to reverse gentrification;
To encourage communal, sustainable, cooperative living as a viable life-style and to provide a basis for cooperative living as a lifestyle choice beyond school;
To promote the study of technologies and lifestyle choices that promote a symbiotic relationship with the environment;
To promote a sense of cooperation and balance between urban and rural lifestyles; and
To aid and advance the creation and growth of cooperating communities.

$250, participating in food sharing is mandatory

Labor Requirements:

Each member cooks dinner and cleans the kitchen twice a month. In addition each member is responsible for completing one weekly chore, one committee assignment, and working at least 7 hours of every quarter on a home improvement project, and attending the monthly meeting.

Shared Amenities: Communal spaces, Shared kitchen, Garden, Shared tools, Bike storage, Washer and dryer, Wireless internet
Frequency of Shared Meals:
